lucky girl

My volunteers have been so amazingly generous to Sadie.  One group of volunteers threw me a shower back in January and I was completely overwhelmed by their generosity.  But it didn't end there.  While I was on leave and since I returned, many volunteers have brought me gifts for Sadie.  She's received some great toys, tons of wonderful books and darling clothes.

Yesterday, I received a package in the mail from one of my volunteer knitters.  She lives in Northern California and we have never met.  We communicate via email.  When I opened the package, I couldn't believe my eyes.  She knit this beautiful sweater for Sadie.

I am so incredibly lucky to have the support and friendship of the people that I work with.  Sadie is one blessed little girl!

sadie's first thanksgiving

Sadie's first Thanksgiving was nice but exhausting.  It was just the four of us: me, Sadie, grandma and grandpa.  Sadie looked adorable in her dress from Boden.

I pretty much spent the entire time chasing Sadie and saying no.  She was quite the rascal in my parents' unbabyproofed house.  Oy!  She opened every cabinet in the kitchen, climbed on the fireplace, tormented the dogs, climbed under the coffee table, etc.  My dad wasn't feeling well so he stayed away from all of us, which meant he wasn't there to entertain Sadie.

Dinner was yummy.  Sadie has decided to be a little picky about what she'll eat these days.  It's odd...things she used to love, she'll take one bite and then shake her head no.  She tried everything at dinner, but didn't eat a whole lot.

My mom bought her this darling Thanksgiving food set from Pottery Barn Kids.  It is so flipping cute!  She'll be getting more play sets from there for Hanukkah/Xmas!

She played with it a little but was more interested in exploring all the dangers in the house.

When the time came for dessert, my mom put a dollop of whipped cream on Sadie's finger for her to taste.  My silly monkey must have thought it was lotion because she rubbed her hands together and rubbed her tummy.  It was so funny!

I wish I had better pictures from the day, but I guess what matters is that we had fun.

meeting grandmama

The day after my big work event, I got to take the day off since I put in tons of overtime working on speeches, the program, etc.  So, I decided to finally take Sadie to meet my grandma, her great grandma.  We had planned to go down a couple times before but had to cancel due to my grandma or Sadie being sick.  My grandma is 93 and lives about an hour away.  She is not in the best of health.

My mom decided to come with us.  We packed up a bunch of toys and food for Sadie and head on down south.  Sadie slept the entire drive down.  I'm sorry to say I hadn't seen my grandma in a while and it was awful to see how she has declined.  When we got there, my grandma was sitting in the living room.  We sat together for a little while and I showed her some of my pictures from Vietnam.  She has always been hard of hearing, but she really can't hear anything I say.  I don't know if it is my voice in particular, but it makes it really hard to visit with her.  A little while later we decided to eat lunch.  Sadie sat at the table like a big girl and ate pretty well.  She was a little quiet with her grandmama, but was very good in the house full of pretty, breakable things.  A little while after lunch my grandma said she had to go lay down.  Turns out she didn't sleep at all the night before.  So she went to bed and we hung around for a while.  Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of Sadie with her grandmama, but we did snap these cute pictures.

flicker, flicker, flicker!

Handy Manny got a new tool today!  Flicker.  We love this show.  I have to admit, I find myself watching even when Sadie isn't paying attention.  Flicker is adorable.  He is a flashlight who only speaks Spanish and he has the cutest voice!  They have new Flicker episodes all week.  Yippee!

mama's day out

My mom and I used to have season tickets to the Ahmanson.  I LOVE musical theatre so we always had a great time.  Well, this last season we weren't really thrilled with the shows that were coming so we gave up our season tickets.  I didn't realize how much I've missed going to the theatre until this past Sunday.

Spring Awakening is playing at the Ahmanson for 6 weeks only and I really wanted to see it.  I was going to ask my mom to watch Sadie and just go by myself but she said she wanted to go too.  So, what to do with Sadie?  One word...grandpa.  My dad agreed to come and sit with her while my mom and I went to the play.  It was really nice to be out for a while with just grownups.  The play was amazing.  Racy, but amazing!  Great music, great acting, haunting story.

Sadie kept grandpa on his toes.  They went for a few walks, he fed her lunch, she took a 30 minute nap and he changed his first poopy diaper!  Go grandpa!

I can't wait until Sadie is old enough to take her to the theater and to concerts.  I know she's going to love it.  I taped Ellen today because David Cook was going to perform and we watched it when we got home tonight.  Sadie sat on the couch next to me and watched him play the entire song.  She clapped during the song and swayed.  It was so cute!  I wish I had gotten it on video.
